Adverse Weather
In the case of adverse weather (e.g. snow), the Academy will make a decision whether it is safe to open, or whether a delayed start or closure is necessary. It is always our intention to remain open wherever possible.
How do we make a decision about the safety of the site?
If adverse weather is forecast, a member of the Senior Leadership Team will be on site for 06:00am. They will assess the site, considering the current condition of the site and the potential future condition, based on the weather forecast. The forecast of other local areas, where colleagues travel from, will be considered to assess the likelihood of having enough colleagues on site to open safely.
The decision is then made by the Headteacher whether to open, delay opening, or close, based upon:
- The current condition of the approach roads and car park/paths;
- Whether it is likely that enough colleagues will be able to reach the Academy to provide adequate supervision;
- The likelihood of conditions deteriorating during the day, posing problems for students and colleagues getting home from the Academy safely.
A decision is always reached as early as possible so that all families and colleagues can be contacted, and each day is treated separately. The decision is always made on the basis of student and colleagues safety.
We will use a range of communication methods to contact you. Please avoid ringing the Academy.
Once a decision has been taken, parents, carers and colleagues will be notified using the communication methods below:
- Text messages will be sent to parents, carers and colleagues;
- A message will be displayed on the Academy’s website;
- Messages will be shared on the Academy’s Facebook page.
