At Wardle academy, we believe that an ambitious curriculum extends far beyond academic grades. “Drop Down Days” (Aspire Days) are a vital part of our strategy to develop the whole child, ensuring every learner leaves us fully equipped for life in modern Britain.
By suspending the normal timetable, we can immerse learners in deep learning experiences that prepare them for the “real world”, focusing on Personal Development, Careers, and PSHE without the interruption of the bell.
Here is how these days benefit your child:
1. Living in the wider-world (Careers & Post-16)
To be ready for the adult world, learners need more than just knowledge; they need cultural capital and professional skills. Drop Down Days allow us to:
- Simulate the Workplace: learners practice stamina, teamwork, and project management in “real-life” scenarios that mirror the 9-to-5 workday.
- Meaningful Encounters: We bring in employers, colleges, and alumni for workshops and mock interviews, raising aspirations and helping learners make informed choices about their next steps.
2. Relationships and Community
Sensitive topics require time and care. These days provide a safe environment to explore complex issues like mental health, healthy relationships, and online safety in depth. We build upon the PSHE curriculum to explore topics in more depth and allow time for reflection and opportunities to hear from professionals that are invited into school.
