Wardle Restaurant

Wardle Restaurant

Our latest menus can be found in the documents section of this webpage.

Our Fast Service Restaurant is another way to share our Wardle Way values, recognising that a healthy, nutritional, varied and balanced diet really supports our Well-being. Our students have underpinned our new offer with our values;

Wellbeing – Healthy diet

Ambition – Trying of new food

Respect – Looking after the environment

Diversity – We are embracing differences as a community

Leadership – We are all being leaders in reducing carbon emissions

Empathy – We are showing empathy in our own personal diet to look after our health

Our students wanted to introduce key themes aligned with our values. These include Meat Free Mondays, where exciting meat free options help us to look after our environment. To celebrate the culinary diversity around us, Worldwide Wednesday allows students to sample a range of dishes from around the world. Similarly, new, healthier drinks options and more varied vegetarian options are available and there is also greater whole wheat options. The restaurant, of course, will be retaining some of our old favourites, such as Fish and Chip Friday!

What is Meat Free Monday?

Meat Free Monday is a simple concept that can make a big difference in our personal health and the health of the planet. The idea was first introduced during World War I as a way to reduce consumption to help the war effort and was revived in 2003 as a non-profit public health initiative. Each week on a Wednesday there will be a choice of foods from around the world. This will change over time and suggestions are welcomed from our students.

Whole Wheat bread & 50/50 toast

The restaurant has introduced whole wheat and 50/50 bread for both sandwiches at lunch and toast in the morning break.

New Drinks

The restaurant is now serving flavoured water based drinks that are not carbonated. The drinks are also in sports bottles so can be reused during the school day.

Allergen Aware

Our Allergy Policy can be found on our centralised Policies page in the Watergrove Trust section.

Advocacy groups such as The Allergy Team and Allergy UK don’t support a total ban on allergens in schools. This is because:

  • It’s almost impossible to enforce it
  • It’s impractical to ban all allergens (for example, milk)
  • It can create a false sense of security

We follow the recommendation that, Instead of banning allergens, we make our schools  ‘allergen aware’. Please note that the school as a whole does not guarantee a completely allergen-free environment. However, this policy will be utilised to minimise the risk of exposure to allergens, encourage self-responsibility, and plan for an effective response to possible emergencies. Due to the presence of allergens in the school kitchen, the catering service cannot guarantee school meals to be 100% allergen free.
