Reading for Pleasure
At Wardle Academy, we actively promote reading for pleasure as a vital part of our literacy culture. Encouraging students to read widely and regularly not only enhances their academic performance but also fosters emotional well-being, empathy, and creativity. Research consistently shows that students who read for enjoyment are more likely to succeed across the curriculum, particularly in vocabulary development, comprehension, and critical thinking.
Through initiatives such as our form time reading programme, access to a rich and diverse school library, author visits, and reading competitions, we aim to cultivate lifelong readers. Our goal is to make reading a joyful and valued part of every student’s daily life at Wardle Academy.

We are incredibly proud of our library. This central hub is a welcoming and calm place were friendships are made. Whether it’s playing chess or card games, reading by yourself or catching up on homework using our computers, there is something for everyone.
