From Wardle, to D6 to The University of Oxford
Wardle Academy is immensely proud to celebrate the outstanding achievement of alumna Darcey, who has secured a place to study History at the prestigious University of Oxford!
Darcey’s journey is a powerful testament to ambition, dedication, and the sustained support provided by the Wardle community, even after students move on.
The Journey to Oxford
Darcey credits her time at Wardle Academy for making the seemingly impossible a reality. Her path included key stages that built confidence and academic excellence:
- Early Outreach: While a student at Wardle, Darcey attended various Oxbridge outreach sessions, which she notes “really made it a possibility”.
- Sixth Form Excellence: After Wardle, she continued her academic studies at Rochdale SFC, focusing on History, English Literature, and Religious Studies.
A Continued Connection: D6 and Staff Support
Following sixth form, Darcey returned to Wardle Academy, working for two years as a D6 Learning Coach. This unique role allowed her to remain connected to the school and allowed Darcey to provide crucial mentorship to younger learners.
Darcey highlighted that her support from the school only increased during this time, with staff members continuing to champion her university application goals.
Overcoming Barriers
Darcey demonstrated incredible initiative by completing several rigorous access courses, including the UNIQ programme and the Pembroke Scholars programme, which prepared her for the academic demands of Oxford.
Her achievement perfectly embodies the ‘Ambition’ and ‘Leadership’ principles of the Wardle Way. Darcey’s success will undoubtedly serve as a huge inspiration to current students who aspire to attend the UK’s top universities.
The entire Wardle Family wishes Darcey the very best as she begins this incredible chapter at Oxford!
