Wardle Alumni Sofia’s Passion for Transforming the Lives of Children

Wardle Academy Class of 2021- Sofia Musgrave Martinez

Sofia Musgrave Martinez – Teaching Assistant at Falinge Park High School and Health and Social Care Student at Manchester Metropolitan University.

We are celebrating the wonderful achievements of Sofia Musgrave Martinez, a former Wardle Academy student and current Health and Social Care student at Manchester Metropolitan University. Sofia is also a Teaching Assistant at Falinge Park High School.

Life at Wardle Academy

Sofia spoke honestly about the struggles she faced whilst at school and shared her personal experiences with dyslexia, anxiety and the loss of her brother. She highlighted the help of her teachers at Wardle who supported her through this difficult time in her life.

Through the support of my teachers I didn’t let these circumstances stop me from following the Wardle Way and achieving academically.

In particular, Sofia highlighted the support of Miss Lawrence who helped her to believe in her academic abilities.

I will never forget the parents’ evening where Miss Lawrence told me and my parents how much I was achieving in BTEC Health and Social Care.

Life After Wardle Academy

Miss Lawrence certainly had a lasting impact on Sofia, as after passing her Level 2 BTEC in Health and Social Care, Sofia went on to study the subject further at college.

After leaving Wardle Academy in 2021, Sofia attended Oldham Sixth Form College where she achieved excellent grades of D* D* D in her Health and Social Care Diploma.

After completing sixth form, Sofia pursued a degree in Health and Social Care at Manchester Metropolitan University where she is due to graduate in 2026.

Whilst at university, Sofia has had the opportunity to work with their Children Without Limits programme where primary school pupils are taught by students on campus every Saturday. The programme aims to break down barriers for children, provide them with free university-level tutoring and engage with the local community.

Sofia has been able to help disadvantaged children learn English and Maths, help improve their confidence and gain valuable experience to help her achieve her goal of being a teacher. Sofia is just one of 300 students taking time out of their weekend to help over 500 children every week.

Sofia is also completing placement work at her former college, Oldham Sixth Form College, as a Teaching Assistant in the Health and Social Care department.

I love it. I aspire to be a Health and Social Care teacher.

Sofia’s love for teaching and improving the lives of children is so wonderful to see. As well as studying for her degree, Sofia is also a Teaching Assistant at Falinge Park High School.

Sofia started out in the role at just 19 years old and has been able to continue her time at the Watergrove Trust as a valued member of staff.
