European Youth Brass Band Championships
Wardle Academy Youth Band have returned after a fantastic weekend spent in Copenhagen and Malmo to compete in the European Youth Brass Band Championships. They played an outstanding performance lead by Mr Rigg which featured a flawless solo played by their solo euphonium player Evie Dorrington.
The band have been European champions at this contest 4 times in a row (5 times overall), but this year were placed 5th to which we are incredibly proud of their mature and dedicated approach to the preparation and execution of this demanding performance, you can’t win them all!
Whilst over in Copenhagen, staff and students enjoyed free time in Tivoli Gardens theme park, shopping in Stroget and seeing the sights of Nyhavn.
In Turning Torso, the use of dynamics to the band’s musical advantage is stunning. The quiet dynamic levels are so beautifully done and it is abundantly clear that these remarkable young players are lucky enough to benefit from the guidance of great teachers but also an inspirational man in the middle.
