Year 10 Football Tournament
Our Year 10 learners produced an outstanding performance at the football tournament held at Hopwood Hall College, finishing runners-up after an impressive run to the final!
Wardle got off to the perfect start in the opening match with a dominant 3-0 victory, showing confidence and quality from the first whistle. The team followed this up with a hard-fought 1-0 win in their second game, maintaining their unbeaten start and building momentum in the group stage.
Their third fixture proved to be their toughest challenge of the tournament as they faced the strongest side in the competition. Despite a determined effort, Wardle were defeated 2-0. The team responded positively in game four, battling to a disciplined 0-0 draw to keep their hopes of reaching the final alive.
Everything came down to the final group match, and Wardle delivered in style with a superb 3-1 victory. The standout performer was Alfie J, who scored a brilliant hat-trick to send Wardle through to the final.
In the final, Wardle once again came up against the tournament’s strongest team. The players gave everything and competed brilliantly throughout the match, but narrowly lost 1-0 in a closely contested game.
Although disappointed not to lift the trophy, Wardle Academy can be extremely proud of their performances across the tournament. Reaching the final, showing resilience after defeat, and producing some excellent football made it a memorable day for the team.
There was further success for Wardle as Lucas B was awarded Man of the Tournament for his outstanding performances throughout the day, recognising his consistency, work rate and quality across every match.
