Youth Brass in Concert – Winners!
Our Youth Band competed alongside 4 other bands and won at the prestigious The Sage in Gateshead, gaining 1st place and therefore Youth Brass Champions of 2019!
Here is an excerpt from Brass Band World Magazine:
“Wardle Academy Youth and Mr Rigg took home the Roy Newsome Memorial Trophy and £1,000 after delivering a poignant programme commemorating the 100th anniversary of the end of World War I.
The band opened proceedings with Marziale from Sir Karl Jenkins’s The Armed Man, moving to Kenneth Alford’s march, The Great Little Army. There was close attention to the musical detail, highlighting why this outstanding outfit has enjoyed so much success under its inspirational conductor.”
